Knowledge is as Important as Security Products for Those Working at Sea

Every business whose primary work takes place at sea will be well aware of the dangers that the ocean can present. As such, the likes of watertight doors and life rafts are going to be top of one’s list in terms of expenditure. Such companies will also be aware of the huge importance of safety training too, but will often overlook the changing laws and even the technological changes that are constantly occurring within the maritime world.

As such, crew often report that their work runs counter to the training they receive, whilst others will simply carry out work in a way that is no longer seen as safe or indeed as a best practice.

Ultimately, whilst the right safety doors and accommodation modules will be integral for the comfort and safety of those on rigs or ships, it is the training they receive that will keep them safest in their work. As such, not only will the right safety training courses need to be found in the first instance, but refresher courses will need to be offered on a very regular basis, and to the entire crew, from those at the very top of the tree to those making their first tentative foray into maritime work.

However, training and working practice will still be at odds unless those giving the orders are also aware of the best way to carry out certain tasks at sea, and therefore even those on land are likely to need to have their knowledge regularly refreshed to ensure that their commands do not run counter to current recommended practices.

So, whilst the right doors are of course integral, the right knowledge will almost certainly be just as vital.
