When you want to design the perfect playground there are lots of things that you need to think about. Once you have put a lot of careful thought and planning into the design stage, you can build the playground so that children will be able to play happily on all the different rides and equipment.
If you are unsure about the best way to build a playground, there are several key steps to follow.
Choose A Flat Area
The first thing to consider is the smoothness of the land. Children might fall down and hurt themselves if they are running and playing on the uneven ground. Choose a flat area with no sudden dips. The ground can be levelled out using a steamroller if there are ruts or bumps. Playground equipment works best on flat ground.
Tarmac The Ground
The ground needs to be evenly tarmacked so that there is a firm surface for children to play on. Make sure that the tarmac is evenly applied and that it does not crack. Otherwise, you could have lots of problems with people tripping up and falling over.
Get A Slide
The slide is one of the most important pieces of equipment in the playground because it is so popular with young children and sometimes adults too. Choose a slide which has enough width for people to slide down without getting stuck. The gradient of the slide is important so choose one that is steep enough to build up momentum without the risk of people flying off if they are going too fast. Don’t choose a slide which is too short because it could be hard to build up any momentum.
The steps up to the slide should be accessible and not too steep. It is also a good idea to have some railing on the steps so that people can support themselves as they are walking up to the top. The slide should be inspected on a regular basis to make sure that it is stable and that there is no rust. These problems need to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Install A Roundabout
A roundabout is one of the most popular pieces of playground equipment. Fit a roundabout which has space for a lot of people, because it is very exciting for children if they are on the ride with lots of other people.
The roundabout needs to be extremely secure and this should be tested on a regular basis. The roundabout should have railings so that children can hang on to something whilst they are being spun around. Ideally, there should also be seats for the children to sit without having to stand and possibly fall off.
Install Swings
Install some swings so that people can compete against their friends to see who can go the highest.
Creating a playground takes a lot of careful planning, and if everything is considered down to the smallest detail you will feel confident that children will enjoy playing there.
